Explain blockchain architecture and consensus hash-linked blocks, immutability, PoW/PoS incentives, and why trust is replaced by coordination.

Connect Bitcoin’s origins and monetary principles to today’s assets, double-spend solution, shared-ledger analogy, and programmability beyond money.

Operate confidently across the stack… wallets, fees/L2s, CEX vs DEX, custody, DeFi composability, and tokenised real-world assets under regulation.

Program Overview

Foundations of Cryptocurrency pulls together the essentials from markets, Bitcoin, blockchain, digital assets, transacting, infrastructure, and DeFi. You’ll start with how blockchains link data through hashes and consensus so no single party must be trusted. Then you’ll trace Bitcoin’s invention and the shared-ledger idea (e.g., Yap) to understand why scarcity and verifiable ownership matter, before expanding to Ethereum’s programmability and Web3. From there we get practical: wallet models and transaction fees (and how to lower them with L2s), centralized vs decentralized venues and custody choices, and how DeFi protocols compose and sometimes cascade risk. We close with tokenised real-world assets, stablecoins, and the regulatory context firms must navigate.

Skills Gained & Business Application

You’ll turn crypto from abstract buzzwords into decisions your firm can defend. Master the vocabulary of blocks, hashes, and consensus to explain why blockchains are tamper-resistant and auditable. Translate Bitcoin’s “why” into clear narratives for executives and clients, then extend that understanding to programmable assets and Web3 use cases. Build reliable operating habits: choose wallet/custody models, construct and verify transactions, and cut costs with L2s and batching. Evaluate venues and risks across CEX/DEX, enforce consumer-protection controls, and understand MiCA-style obligations. Finally, assess tokenisation and stablecoins with legal clarity, who holds title, redemption rights, and when tokens are likely securities so pilots survive compliance review.

Who This Program Is Ideal For

✓ Portfolio managers & research analysts: Link Bitcoin/crypto theses to macro/market structure; compare custody/venue and fee/L2 choices for execution. ✓ Product managers & solution architects: Specify wallet flows, fee optimisation (L2s, batching), and interoperable journeys across CEX/DEX and DeFi. ✓ Risk, compliance & legal: Map consumer-protection posture, MiCA-style requirements, and RWA token rights (title, redemption, disclosures). ✓ Operations, security & custody teams: Choose fit-for-purpose custody (self, hardware, multisig; service providers) and incident-prevention controls. ✓ Educators & client-facing leaders: Explain blockchain and Bitcoin with memorable analogies (e.g., Yap) and grounded, regulation-aware examples.
